Development of a new variety of field cucumber dedicated to pickling and improved technology of its cultivation in order to obtain high quality, repeatable and efficient production in Polish climatic conditions

The subject of the project is a comprehensive solution to the problem of insufficient domestic production of high-quality field cucumbers dedicated to the pickling process.

The aim of the project is breeding new varieties of field cucumbers and developing a comprehensive technology for their cultivation in order to obtain high-quality raw material with characteristics desirable from the point of view of the pickling process.

The project will result in the development of:

· at least 3 new varieties of field cucumber with different fruiting periods (early, medium-early and late), high yield and morphological features desirable from the point of view of the pickling process;

· new preparations for biofortification with important microelements: Fe(II), Zn(II), Cu(II), Mn(II):

– increasing the crispness of the cucumber,

– increasing the amount of marketable yield,

– improving health and limiting the use of plant protection products,

– increasing yields.

recommendations regarding nutrition, irrigation and the use of plant protection products dedicated to field cultivation using modern technologies (including drip irrigation, fertigation);

· model of correlation of raw cucumber characteristics with those of pickled cucumber.

The project is being implemented by a consortium consisting of Fruktus Agros Nova Sp. z o. o. (leader), Intermag Sp. z o. o., Krakowska Hodowla i Nasiennictwo Ogrodnicze Polan Sp. z o. o. Each consortium member is responsible for a selected area of the project:

1. Fruktus – the pickling process and the correlation model of cucumber morphological features

2. Intermag – cucumber cultivation technology

3. Polan – new cucumber varieties
